PERFORMANCE PRACTICE

Unit objective: Students will demonstrate their ability to create a character using only their voice by utilizing the skills of tone, timbre, rate, pitch, projection, and diction in a puppet show performance.

Unit Objective: Students will be able to demonstrate character development and exploration by stepping into role as the superhero characters they have created on paper, utilizing tactics and objectives.

Students will be able to demonstrate their ability to show contrasting characters by mock-auditioning with two monologues.

Students will demonstrate their ability to collaborate with others and their understanding of different performance genres by taking responsibility for their individual tasks within a larger project, listening to their peers, and applying a justified choice of a performance genre for their script.

Students will demonstrate their understanding of the skills of improvisation (establish a specific situation, listen, add conflict, plan less, and ‘yes,and’) by performing improvised scenes and reflecting on their understanding.

Students will demonstrate their understanding of oppression, empathy, Boal techniques by creating and participating in Forum Theatre scenes.

Students will demonstrate their understanding of The Second Circle, created by Patsy Rodenburg, and the importance of presence in performance by applying presence to diverse situations and performing a Shakespearean Sonnet in Second Circle.

Students will demonstrate their ability to manipulate voice to clearly portray an objective-driven character through the design and development of a puppet character in a short scene.

Students will demonstrate their ability to interpret and create believable characters through exploring textual analysis, performance, and dramatic criticism.

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the audition process by preparing for an audition as an actor and a casting director.

Students will demonstrate acting fundamentals (character development, objectives, tactics, motivation, blocking) by creating, rehearsing, and performing a musical theatre mash up scene.

Students will be able to demonstrate their understanding of Shakespeare’s stories and themes by re-telling one of his plays in a dramatic stylized adaptation for the rest of the class.

Students will consider their own inner thoughts and how they express those things by writing and performing a slam poem.

Students will demonstrate their understanding of script analysis and characterization by performing a scene from The Curious Savage.

Students will demonstrate their ability to work cohesively by creating and performing a Children’s Theatre piece.

Objective: Students will demonstrate their understanding and exploration of Stanislavsky’s foundational acting system elements by incorporating them in a monologue or scene performance.

Students will compare/integrate other art forms with theatre through analyzing movie trailers. Students will demonstrate understanding of camera angles and movements, using iMovie, scriptwriting, and playing a convincing character by creating an original movie trailer.

Students will demonstrate acting fundamentals (character development, objectives, tactics, motivation, blocking) by creating, rehearsing, and performing a musical theatre mash up scene.

Students will demonstrate their ability to interpret and respond to artistic mediums and their ability to interact with imaginary things, become objects with their bodies, and express emotions and ideas with their bodies. The will do this by creating, rehearsing, and performing a 3-5-minute silent group scene in response to an artistic work.

Students will be able to demonstrate their understanding of vocal qualities (rate, pitch, tone, diction, and projection) by designing a unique voice for a puppet and performing in an original, rehearsed puppet show.

Students will be able to perform a rehearsed scene with a partner while demonstrating their understanding of stage rules and creating believable characters with objectives and tactics.

Students will demonstrate their understanding of musical theatre by performing a musical theatre act with a song and body movement.

The students will demonstrate their ability to apply the vocal viewpoints to portray character, emotion, location, and story/plot by performing a reading of a children’s storybook.

Objective: The students will demonstrate their understanding of the various elements of musical theatre by putting on a musical theatre review in class.

Objective: Students will be able to access and apply the Suzuki Method to their acting by using this method to perform their regional competition pieces.

Unit Objective: Students will demonstrate their abilities to perform Shakespeare by choosing a performance piece, preparing the piece through translation and scoring, blocking the piece, and performing a Shakespeare monologue or scene.

Unit Objective: Students will demonstrate their understanding of auditioning techniques by performing contrasting monologues in a mock audition setting and participating in cold reading mock auditions.

Objective: Students will demonstrate their understanding of the principles of acting in a scene by writing, rehearsing, and performing a 4-5 minute storybook scene.

Unit Objective: The student will demonstrate their understanding of non-verbal communication in terms of movement, character, environment, and props by performing a pantomime duo scene.
