Students will demonstrate their understanding of real-life auditions by working with a working actor.
MATERIALS NEEDED:
Guest Actor, Accompanist, Piano
HOOK:
Have the guest actor greet the students as they come in.
STEP 1:
Modeling—Introduce the actor and have them explain a little about how they are, their background, credits, etc. Have the actor perform a demonstration of one of their audition pieces. Let the students ask questions.
STEP 2:
Individual practice—Have the students practice. As they do, they preview their auditions for either the teacher of the guest actor. The first two students get to go again at the end if they wish. Students get to pick who goes after them.
CLOSURE:
Let the guest actor give their feedback and encouragement to the class. Inform the class that next time, they will be auditioning their pieces.
ASSESSMENTS:
Audition Evaluation Form and Reflective Response (100 points total—84 for audition grade and 16 for reflective response grade)
