Description:
This unit was constructed for a technical theatre course where students have the opportunity to stage manage later in the year for student directed one-act plays.
Lesson Plans
Lesson 1: Communication Students will demonstrate an understanding of communication and delegation by verbally describing effective communication.
Lesson 2: Pre-Production Students will demonstrate an understanding of preproduction stage management by completing a pre- production quiz.
Lesson 3: Blocking Notes Students will demonstrate and understanding of spike taping a set and notating blocking by performing each task.
Lesson 4: Delegating Students will demonstrate an understanding of how to delegate scene changes by assigning students in the class to do a scene change.
Lesson 6: Calling a Cue Students will demonstrate an understanding of calling a show by calling a song from Aida.
Lesson 7: SM Review Students will demonstrate an understanding of the concepts of stage management by teaching each other concepts discuss in class.
Lesson 8: Proving Knowledge Students will demonstrate an understanding of stage management by taking a written final.
Author’s Notes: I am a trained stage manager, so many of the stories and anecdotes referred to in this unit are from my own personal background and experiences. Other teachers will want to insert their own experiences as examples. Some of the documents/examples are not included since they are personal work; you’ll want to provide your own examples.
