        1. Students will demonstrate an ability to think critically about challenges they or characters might face through a creative drama experience based on the book\u00a0 Click, Clack, Moo<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

           <\/p>\n

          HOOK <\/strong>(3-5 minutes)<\/p>\n

            \n
          1. Children stand up in a circle with you.<\/li>\n
          2. What\u2019s a time when you asked your parents for something?\u00a0 Did they say yes or no?\n
              \n
            1. Go through each of the children and ask them to tell their story.\u00a0 How did that make you feel?<\/u>Have all the children show us that emotion.\u00a0For example, if their mom told them no and it made them feel sad, have all the children show us their sad faces.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              READ THE BOOK <\/strong>(7 minutes)<\/p>\n

                \n
              1. Have the children sit down in a circle\u00a0 so that all can see the pictures as you read the book aloud.\u00a0Read through the book with the children, asking them to engage throughout the story.\n
                  \n
                1. Page 1-2: Have children \u201cClick-clack moo\u201d with you.<\/u><\/li>\n
                2. Page 3: Think back to the example that you shared about wanting something and asking your parents for it.\u00a0 What did you do to to ask for it?<\/u><\/li>\n
                3. Page 5: Have children \u201cClick-clack moo\u201d with you.<\/u><\/li>\n
                4. Page 6: Was it something that you wanted or that you and<\/em>others wanted? Did you get your siblings or friends to join you?<\/u><\/li>\n
                5. Page 7: Have children \u201cClick-clack moo\u201d with you.<\/u><\/li>\n
                6. Page 9: How did the person you ask respond to you?<\/u><\/li>\n
                7. Page 11: Pretend like you are all the cows and are having your emergency meeting.\u00a0 How do cows communicate with each other?<\/u>Moo about what you might do to get Farmer Brown to say yes to you! Did your mother tell you no? How did you respond? (Possibly have the students show you)<\/u><\/li>\n
                8. Page 12: The cows had to give up the typewriter for the blankets.\u00a0Did you have to work for what you want? Or give something up?<\/u><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                  Creative Drama Experience <\/strong>(12 minutes)<\/p>\n

                  INSTRUCTION \/ STOP THE STORY<\/p>\n

                    \n
                  • Have the children be ducks and reenact the story themselves.\n
                      \n
                    • Woah, Woah, Woah before we finish the very end of the story, there\u2019s another character in this story that we didn\u2019t talk about, but he\u2019s in a lot of the story! It\u2019s the duck! He\u2019s going to be important in a little bit, so let\u2019s explore Duck!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
                    • Alright when I say go, everyone stand up and find your own place in the room. Remember we did this last time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                        \n
                      1. You shouldn\u2019t be able to touch anyone.<\/li>\n
                      2. Stand still when you\u2019re there.<\/li>\n
                      3. Get there in 10 seconds.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                        Okay, Go (10…9\u2026.8…etc)<\/p>\n

                        INDIVIDUALLY<\/p>\n

                          \n
                        • Let\u2019s imagine we are Ducks on the farm!<\/li>\n
                        • Now on your own, let\u2019s become ducks!\n
                            \n
                          • As I ask you some questions, start to become a duck with your body.<\/li>\n
                          • Ask Questions: What does your duck look like? How tall is your duck? Long neck? Short neck small feet? Are you a colorful duck?<\/li>\n
                          • Who wants to share what they look like<\/li>\n
                          • Alright, now in your place, start to try and walk like a duck.\n
                              \n
                            • Show them the picture in the book<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                              DUCK ENJOYS TO…<\/p>\n

                                \n
                              • What does your duck like to do?\n
                                  \n
                                • Imagine you\u2019re on the farm with a pond in the middle of the room, then some cows over there (point to one side of the room)<\/li>\n
                                • Play in the puddles? Look for food? Ducks love water!<\/li>\n
                                • Sleeping and napping? Playing in mud? digging holes?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                                  GROUP<\/p>\n

                                    \n
                                  • Have you guys ever fed bread to ducks?<\/li>\n
                                  • Alright let\u2019s try it! Everyone come to the center of the room. You\u2019re all on or right around the pond. I\u2019ll be coming to visit the duck pond and feed you all bread.\n
                                      \n
                                    • Imagine I\u2019m throwing bread into the pond. You are the ducks how do you eat this bread. Does your neighbor sometimes get there before you do?<\/li>\n
                                    • Do you make sound? How are you waddling? Diving into water? etc<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                                      TRANSITION BACK TO THE STORY<\/p>\n

                                        \n
                                      1. Remember that Duck was sent to bring the typewriter back to Farmer Brown? What if Duck ended up with the typewriter and never gave it to Farmer Brown?\n
                                          \n
                                        1. Do you think this is because he and the other Ducks wanted something from Farmer Brown? What might they have wanted?<\/u>\n
                                            \n
                                          1. Think about when we were discovering what your ducks like to do. What might they want with the pond? Or to sleep better?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
                                          2. Introduce Kate as Farmer Brown.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                                             <\/p>\n

                                            ASSESSMENT <\/strong>(6 minutes)<\/p>\n

                                            GO BACK TO THE BOOK<\/p>\n

                                              \n
                                            1. Talk together (as ducks) to discuss what you will demand from Farmer Brown.\u00a0 Encourage them to come up with one thing that they want.\n
                                                \n
                                              1. Melissa will be the \u201cmiddle man\u201d like Duck in the story.\u00a0 Have the class choose an animal that Melissa can act as.\u00a0 She will tell \u201cFarmer Brown\u201d the class\u2019 demand.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
                                              2. Kate, as Farmer Brown, will tell Melissa why they cannot have what they want.\u00a0 Kate will say her response out loud while writing it on the whiteboard.\n
                                                  \n
                                                1. \u201cDear Ducks, I can\u2019t give you ________, because I don\u2019t think you\u2019ll do anything for me if I get you this.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
                                                2. \u201cOh no! What will we do?\u201d Have the ducks work together (maybe encourage them to have an emergency meeting like the cows in the story) to create a solution to the refusal.\u00a0 Have one of the ducks tell Farmer Brown their solution.<\/li>\n
                                                3. Kate, as Farmer Brown, will grant them their request!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                                                  Together read the last page of the story and see what they asked from Farmer Brown.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
