{"id":6031,"date":"2021-02-18T16:18:28","date_gmt":"2021-02-18T16:18:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tedb-old.byu.edu\/?page_id=6031"},"modified":"2021-02-18T16:18:28","modified_gmt":"2021-02-18T16:18:28","slug":"performance-5","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/tedb-old.byu.edu\/?page_id=6031","title":{"rendered":"Performance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Performance<\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By Katelyn Tullis<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Objective:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students will demonstrate a deeper understanding for drama by performing a rehearsed drama work for their class and analyzing whether their peers\u2019 and their own artistic choices met their artistic goals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Prior Experience:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students will draw upon all lessons in this unit as they practice the following skills: collaboration, acting, designing, script analysis, and \u201cyes, and.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Class Style:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*Live Zoom call.*<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>National Standards:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TH:Pr6.1.8a. Perform a scripted drama\/theatre work for a specific audience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TH:Re9.1.I.b. Consider the aesthetics of the production elements in a drama\/theatre work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Big Ideas:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We can learn from our performances.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reflection helps us to understand our work better.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Enduring Understandings:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students will perform their short stories for the class.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students will understand how to respond to their own and other\u2019s work positively and critically.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Essential Questions:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What does it look like to be a respectful audience member?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why is it important to reflect on my work as a theatre artist?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How can I prepare myself for a performance?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Materials<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Powerpoint containing any of the students\u2019 design work<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is something that you will need to make. You can decide whether to make one with all the groups\u2019 work combined or whether to make separate powerpoints. Performances might be something scary to you and that is okay. But if you learn to prepare your mind and body by warming it up, you will have an easier time.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Go through the National Theatre warmups for body and voice as a class.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can screencast the videos on your screen and have everyone follow along.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You could also learn the routines and do them yourself and encourage your class to follow along with you.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">INSTRUCTION (5 minutes)<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each group will get a chance to present their possible designs. Then we will watch their actors perform the scene. As the designers you get 10 minutes to present. The actors get 3 minutes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember to be a polite audience member. Your video should stay on so that we know you are being an attentive audience and giving your attention to each group member. You should stay muted when it isn\u2019t your turn to present.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After you present, we will do a short reflection on our work.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PERFORMANCE (60 minutes)<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Presentation Schedule: Group ____. (Each group gets 12 minutes. That means you can fit 5 groups into 1 hour).<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Designers have 5 minutes to present.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Actors have 3 minutes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Discussion\/Transition (4 minutes)<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"3\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I observed \u2026\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"3\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I liked \u2026\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"3\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I wonder \u2026<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Repeat for all groups<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">RESPONSE (10 minutes)<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Part of learning is trying something new. But we must also reflect on our work so that we can recognize and congratulate ourselves and others on what we have done well, but also look back and think critically about what we can do better next time. For the next 10 minutes, I want you to reflect on what you have learned during this project and write a 250 word paragraph about it to be emailed to me before next class.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are some questions that can prompt you. You don\u2019t need to answer all of them.
