{"id":5560,"date":"2018-05-16T18:52:23","date_gmt":"2018-05-16T18:52:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tedb-old.byu.edu\/?page_id=5560"},"modified":"2018-05-16T18:52:23","modified_gmt":"2018-05-16T18:52:23","slug":"final-performances-day-1-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/tedb-old.byu.edu\/?page_id=5560","title":{"rendered":"Final Performances Day 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Day 9, Final Performances Day 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lesson Objective:<\/strong> Students will demonstrate acting fundamentals (character development, objectives, tactics, motivation, blocking) by performing a musical theatre mash up scene and writing a critique on the work of their peers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Materials:<\/strong> Whiteboard\/Markers, Final Performance Rubrics (one for each student)\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/tedb-old.byu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Musical-Theatre-Mash-Up-Rubric.docx\">Musical Theatre Mash Up Rubric<\/a>, A\/V Sound Hook Ups<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prior to Class:<\/strong> Number the whiteboard 1-however many scene groups there are in the class.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hook: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Have students stand. Lead them through a quick physical and vocal warm up. (a tongue twister with actions would work fine). Have students stretch, do a couple jumping jacks, then shake everything out.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A member of each partnership needs to come up to the white board and sign up for a performance slot. Every group needs to sign up! NOTE: Since performances will almost certainly take two class periods, it might be a good idea to snap a pic of the order on the white board to refer to next time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When time is up, have students take out their notebooks and a writing utensil.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Transition:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Briefly explain the procedure for performances:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Performances will go according the order on the white board.<\/li>\n<li>For each scene performance, students will write a brief critique answering the following questions:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>What elements of the scene have improved the most since previews? (be specific)<\/li>\n<li>What elements could still use some work? (again, be specific)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Once a scene finishes, the folks on deck will get their space\/music set up while the class finishes any last minute notes about the scene. To help these transitions run smoothly, encourage students to stay in \u201c<strong>audience mode<\/strong>\u201d (focusing on the performers &amp; on their own work, not talking, etc\u2026)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ask what questions students have about the instructions\/procedures. Answer any questions.<\/p>\n<p>Give students a couple minutes to gather any props\/put on any costume pieces they may have.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Performances:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Go through the line-up listed on the board, having each group perform their scene. Fill out a rubric for each student.<\/p>\n<p>Get through as many performances as possible during the class period.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wrap Up\/Discussion:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stop performances when there are about 5-10 minutes left of class. \u00a0Ask students what they\u2019ve enjoyed and\/or learned from the performances they watched today. \u00a0Thank students for their focus and have them clean up the space.
