{"id":5053,"date":"2017-05-19T18:36:14","date_gmt":"2017-05-19T18:36:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tedb-old.byu.edu\/?page_id=5053"},"modified":"2017-05-19T18:36:14","modified_gmt":"2017-05-19T18:36:14","slug":"bunraku-principles","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/tedb-old.byu.edu\/?page_id=5053","title":{"rendered":"Bunraku Principles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>LESSON 2: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bunraku Principles<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objective: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students will be able do basic manipulations of a bunraku style puppet by working in teams to build and move their puppet.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Materials<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cMan Who Planted Trees\u201dhttps:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=3HGJLkrnbYU<\/li>\n<li>Butcher Paper<\/li>\n<li>Masking Tape<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hook <\/strong>:Bunraku Videos \u201c Man Who Planted Trees\u201d<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Show students Youtube Clip of The Man Who Planted Trees<\/li>\n<li>Ask them to make a list of the different puppetry principles they saw being used in the clip.<\/li>\n<li>Create a group list on the board.<\/li>\n<li>sight<\/li>\n<li>energy<\/li>\n<li>emotion<\/li>\n<li>breath<\/li>\n<li>anatomy<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Activity <\/strong>: Building Puppets<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Create puppet groups according to height. Should be groups of three that are generally the same height.<\/li>\n<li>Give each group 3 sheets of butcher paper.<\/li>\n<li>2 feet<\/li>\n<li>4 feet<\/li>\n<li>8 feet<\/li>\n<li>Scrunch small paper into a ball.<\/li>\n<li>Crinkle longest paper into a line. Wrap the middle of the long paper around the ball and tape.<\/li>\n<li>Form knees and legs and waist.<\/li>\n<li>Crinkle the middle paper. Tape into shoulders.<\/li>\n<li>Form elbows and wrists.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Activity <\/strong>: Back to Back Breathing<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>In your puppet teams stand in a circle back to back.<\/li>\n<li>Breath how you are breathing, don\u2019t try to breath a certain way.<\/li>\n<li>Be aware of how your body is moving with each breath, how are you feeling?<\/li>\n<li>Allow students a minute to just breath.<\/li>\n<li>[Example] Letting your back and legs touch. You can hold hands to get more connected.<\/li>\n<li>You want to start breathing together. You shouldn\u2019t be cueing each other, don\u2019t take the lead, just try to do it together.<\/li>\n<li>Give them a minute to breath together.<\/li>\n<li>[Example] Now let the movement of your combined breath start to move your group.<\/li>\n<li>Once again no leading or cueing, just try to move together.<\/li>\n<li>Try staying away from a pattern, try moving in different ways together.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Discussion<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Were you successful in moving as a group?
