{"id":5039,"date":"2017-05-12T16:04:25","date_gmt":"2017-05-12T16:04:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tedb-old.byu.edu\/?page_id=5039"},"modified":"2017-05-12T16:04:25","modified_gmt":"2017-05-12T16:04:25","slug":"previews-post-preview-reflection","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/tedb-old.byu.edu\/?page_id=5039","title":{"rendered":"Previews &#038; Post-Preview Reflection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Lessons 7 &amp; 8: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Previews &amp; Post-Preview Reflection<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objective:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students will demonstrate their understanding of their piece by performing in a preview.\u00a0 Students will demonstrate their understanding of acting principles by given written feedback to their peers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Materials needed:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Preview sheets\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tedb-old.byu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/7.Preview-Sheet.docx\">7.Preview Sheet<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>PREVIEW PERFORMANCES<\/p>\n<p>Watch and time the performances and give notes on the preview sheets to return to students \u2013 the preview sheet is focused on Stanislavsky\u2019s elements to allow for specific detailed feedback.\u00a0 With some warm-up\/run-through time given to students it will likely take two class periods to get through every preview plus the post-preview work.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Have each student take notes on their peer\u2019s performances.\u00a0 Have them write it in such a way that at the end of the preview they can separate their paper into performances and distribute their feedback to the performer(s).<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Something you can steal for your own work<\/li>\n<li>Something specific that worked well \u2013 a moment, an action, objective, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Suggestions for improvement \u2013 \u201cI wonder\u2026\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Finish up preview performances; go back through the preview order and call on 1-3 various students to share a note they took for that performer and then the teacher shares the most important note out loud.\u00a0 After each preview has been given a couple verbal notes from their peers, create a pile of feedback for each performance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>REFLECTION<\/p>\n<p>Have each student write a brief self-reflection on their own piece.\u00a0 They should consider the following questions (you may want to have these written on the board or put in a PowerPoint slide):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><u>What do I keep and what do I toss? <\/u><\/li>\n<li>What were my three strongest moments? What did I DO to get to those moments?\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>What do I still need to work on \u2013 where do I need to focus my energy and work now?<\/li>\n<li>*Read through your feedback*<\/li>\n<li>After reflecting and reading through your feedback, create a 3-point action plan for improvement in your piece for final performances.
