{"id":4938,"date":"2016-03-23T17:29:51","date_gmt":"2016-03-23T17:29:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tedb-old.byu.edu\/?page_id=4938"},"modified":"2016-03-23T17:29:51","modified_gmt":"2016-03-23T17:29:51","slug":"perspective","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/tedb-old.byu.edu\/?page_id=4938","title":{"rendered":"Perspective"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lesson 4\u2014<strong>Perspective<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>OBECTIVE<\/strong>: Students will demonstrate their understanding of perspective by portraying the perspectives of the different characters in \u201cSnow White\u201d as well as giving a synopsis of the perspective of another character in their narrative.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hook<\/strong>: This American Life podcast (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thisamericanlife.org\/radio-archives\/episode\/115\/first-day\">http:\/\/www.thisamericanlife.org\/radio-archives\/episode\/115\/first-day<\/a>)\u2013 start at 19: 55 (Squirrel Cop)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Discuss<\/strong>: What kind of perspective did the narrator have? How would the other characters have told the story (ex. his partner, the homeowner). Why would they be different?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Segway to instruction: Write PERSPECTIVE on the board. Ask: What is a perspective? How can perspectives be different?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Discussion<\/strong>: \u201cSnow White and the Seven Dwarfs;\u201d view scene where Snow White first meets the Dwarfs (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=O1SXmigMfnE\">http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=O1SXmigMfnE<\/a>). Have 9 students volunteer to come up to the front and give possible <em>subtext <\/em>(thoughts of the characters that we don\u2019t see) of the different characters. What do they think of each other? How do they interact in this scene? How would they tell the story of this scene? Also, think of the end of the movie\u2014how do their perspectives change? They are more unified and have become better because of Snow White, etc.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Instruction<\/strong>: Perspective can change the audience\u2019s thoughts of a story. We see this ALL. THE. TIME in society today. Ask: <em>What are some examples?<\/em> \u00a0It is important to take perspective into account, for there are two sides to every story. In order to apply the principle of perspective, students will write their thoughts of the perspective of another character in the picture. This will help give depth to the context of their narrative they will present as the \u201cPicture This\u201d assignment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rehearse<\/strong>: In- class time to work on \u201cPicture This\u201d assignment.
