If a covering <em>is <\/em>provided, near the beginning of the unit be sure to announce this convention will be used.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><u>Hook<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Vocal Warmups: Invite the students to stand in a circle and follow these instructions from you:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Inhale through the nose slowly on a count of 4.<\/li>\n<li>Exhale through the mouth while pushing the air out using your diaphragm, saying a silent \u201chuh\u201d sound<\/li>\n<li>Repeat 3 times.<\/li>\n<li>Inhale through the nose slowly on a count of 4.<\/li>\n<li>Exhale through the mouth while quietly making the sound \u201cHaaaa\u201d. Remind students to continue to relax the upper body while inhaling and exhaling.<\/li>\n<li>Repeat 3 times.<\/li>\n<li>Inhale through the nose quickly, filling the lungs to capacity as quickly as possible.<\/li>\n<li>Exhale through the mouth while projecting to the opposite side of the room the sound \u201cHaaaa\u201d on the breath.<\/li>\n<li>Repeat 3 times.<\/li>\n<li>Inhale quickly again, and this time on the exhale recite the phrase, \u201cMary had a little lamb.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><u>Performances and Student Observations<\/u><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ask the students to take out a sheet of paper, and to copy what you write on the board. On the board write the following:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Title:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Name:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1 thing that worked:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1 thing to improve:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The students need to write the section with <em>name\/1 thing that worked\/1 thing to improve<\/em> for each member of the cast that is performing.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Invite the cast that is performing to take the stage and begin their performance by introducing the title of the play and the actors who are performing. They may then begin their performance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><u>Assessment<\/u><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 When the performance is over, ask for observations from the class members: things that worked, things that can be improved.
