team by participating in learning activities, asking and answering questions, and completing a Props List Worksheet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Materials Needed<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Prop Manager Handout<\/p>\n<p>Colored pencils or highlighters for each student<\/p>\n<p>Props List Worksheet (2 copies per student)<\/p>\n<p>Props Manager Worksheet<\/p>\n<p>Bag of small, individually wrapped candy\/treats<\/p>\n<p>Copies of a scene that contains several hand and stage props.<\/p>\n<p>Box of various props (include the props needed for Directions<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Anticipatory Set\/Hook<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Set the podium in front of chairs that are arranged in a single line facing the chalkboard.\u00a0\u00a0(Be certain there is a chair for each person in the class.)\u00a0\u00a0Place the Prop Manager Handout and a colored pencil on each chair.\u00a0\u00a0Tell the students to write their names on the handout.\u00a0Then, instruct them to read the handout and learn as much as possible because they will be taking a quiz in 15 minutes.\u00a0\u00a0Instruct the students to highlight important information.\u00a0\u00a0Students must be absolutely quiet until everyone is finished reading.\u00a0\u00a0Take the roll while students are reading.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Instruction<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1\u2014<\/strong>When all students have completed their reading of the handout, instruct the students to put the handout behind them (between the chair and the student\u2019s back).<\/p>\n<p>Tell the students that the quiz will be an oral quiz.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2\u2014Explain the Rules of the Quiz\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 write the rules on the board.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students must be quiet and respectful during the quiz.<\/li>\n<li>Students will take turns answering questions.<\/li>\n<li>No cheating.\u00a0\u00a0You cannot look at the handout when it is your turn.<\/li>\n<li>No one can call out the answers unless it is his\/her turn.<\/li>\n<li>If a student answers a question correctly,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00fc\u00a0\u00a0He brings his handout to the podium ,<\/p>\n<p>\u00fc\u00a0\u00a0Shows the teacher where to find the answer on the handout,<\/p>\n<p>\u00fc\u00a0\u00a0Gets a treat,<\/p>\n<p>\u00fc\u00a0\u00a0Asks the next question.\u00a0\u00a0(After asking the question, they sit at the other end of the line of chairs.)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If a student answers a question incorrectly, he walks to the end of the line and sits in the last chair\u2014everyone moves up one chair.<\/li>\n<li>When a question is answered incorrectly, the person who raises his\/her hand and answers the question correctly, goes to the podium.<\/li>\n<li>Students who yell out answers without the teacher calling them, go to the end of the line.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Check for Understanding.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3\u2014<\/strong>Conduct the Quiz.\u00a0\u00a0Share additional information that is related to the questions asked.\u00a0\u00a0If no one has the correct answer, have a race to see who can find the answer first.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 4\u2014Transition:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>After the quiz,<\/p>\n<p>Ask:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0What is prop?<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0What is the difference between a hand prop and a stage prop?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 5\u2014Modeling:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Distribute the scene script and Props List Worksheet.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Divide the class into 4 small groups and have each group sit in a small circle (separate from other groups).<\/li>\n<li>Have the groups quietly read the script together, looking for hand props used by the characters and stage props that are on the stage.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Within the groups, students may collaborate to decide if the discovered prop is\u00a0a hand prop or a stage prop.<\/li>\n<li>Each student needs to write down the props that are found in the script.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 6\u2014Transition:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>After completion of the prop worksheet, explain that each of them will have to complete a Props List for their chosen scene from\u00a0<em>Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream<\/em>\u00a0for their portfolio\/production book.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Then, have them place their chairs in the standard (audience\/classroom) area.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 7\u2014Guided Practice:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ask which of the groups will volunteer to be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A prop crew<\/li>\n<li>The set designers<\/li>\n<li>Actors<\/li>\n<li>The Audience<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Direct:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0The prop crew to select props and set up a hand prop table and place stage props where\u00a0the props need to be on stage.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The set designers to set the stage.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The actors to decide who performs which role and run through the scene.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The audience to straighten the chairs in the audience area.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 8\u2014<\/strong>Performance:\u00a0\u00a0The actor group performs the scene while the prop crew makes sure the actors get their hand props.\u00a0\u00a0Set designers sit with the audience group.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>NOTE:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0If there is time, perform the scene without the props (actors using mime actions to portray props) as well as perform with the actual props.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 9\u2014Discussion:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Are props important to a performance?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Why do you think props are important?<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0How would the performance be if there were no props?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 10\u2014<\/strong>\u00a0Have the students submit their group worksheets, and take their handouts and put them in their theatre folders.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Remind the students that they must create a props list for their scenes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Distribute the props worksheet.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Point out that they must\u00a0<u>decide whether the prop will be rented, purchased, or made<\/u>\u00a0<strong>AND<\/strong>\u00a0that they have to\u00a0<u>explain their choices<\/u>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ask:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0What do you think determines your choice?\u00a0\u00a0<em>(budget, whether or not it is available, etc.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 11\u2014<\/strong>If there is time remaining, have students start analyzing their\u00a0<em>Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream\u00a0<\/em>scene scripts for hand\/stage props and fill out their Props List for their scenes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLOSURE:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Remind students to write in your learning log.\u00a0\u00a0Make sure every student gets a piece of candy at the end of class<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Assessment<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Worksheets, teacher observation, participation in learning activities, answers to quiz,
