{"id":204,"date":"2015-02-04T17:58:03","date_gmt":"2015-02-04T17:58:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tedb-wp.byu.edu\/?page_id=204"},"modified":"2015-05-15T20:14:57","modified_gmt":"2015-05-15T20:14:57","slug":"lesson-7-fantastic-faces","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/tedb-old.byu.edu\/?page_id=204","title":{"rendered":"Lesson 7: Fantastic Faces"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>OBJECTIVE: \u00a0<\/h4>\n<p>Students will show an ability to create fantasy makeup by creating a step by step design and applying it to themselves.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>MATERIALS NEEDED:<\/h4>\n<p>Enough makeup for each student<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Copies of Makeup Design Sheet for each student (see Lesson 1 Supplements)<\/li>\n<li>Facial cleanser and towels for each student<\/li>\n<li>Makeup Morgue<\/li>\n<li>Enough brushes and sponges for each student<\/li>\n<li>Makeup room key<\/li>\n<li>Mirror or a volunteer for demonstration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>HOOK:\u00a0<\/h4>\n<p>On the board, have a list of different types of stylized makeup:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Animals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Lions<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Tigers<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Bears<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Etc<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Traditional<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Japanese Noh<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Clowns<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Mimes<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 War Paint<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Etc<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mythical Figures<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Ogres<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Elves<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Demons<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Fantasy creatures<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Fantasy characters<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Etc.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Horror<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Monsters<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Etc<\/p>\n<p>Discuss how these different types of characters are often created on stage through makeup.\u00a0 Have the students get out their fantasy designs and go into the makeup room.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>PRESENTATION:<\/h4>\n<p>Instruction\/Guided Practice\/Checking<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Have the students follow their designs step by step.<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Rotating through the students one at a time, see how well they follow their designs, how they feel about the design, and make sure each design is both a unique design and that it is revealing of the character.\u00a0 Make sure that they are making thoughtful choices in regard to their designs.\u00a0 If the design seems to be atypical or copied from a production, encourage the student to make alterations to the design that will make it his or her own unique work.<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Discuss as a group some of the different thing we see in the different designs.<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Students who finish early can work on creating and implementing new designs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>CLOSURE:\u00a0<\/h4>\n<p>Clean up.\u00a0 Collect the design sheets from everyone.\u00a0 Let the students know that next time will be their makeup final.\u00a0 For their final, they will need a second draft or new fantasy character design that includes at least one of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Crepe Hair<\/li>\n<li>Gore<\/li>\n<li>Latex<\/li>\n<li>Putty<\/li>\n<li>Wax<\/li>\n<li>Gelatin<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Their instructions should be done well enough for anyone to follow.\u00a0 They will not be doing their own design but someone else\u2019s, so each step should be specific enough for others to understand.\u00a0 Half of the final is the design, and the other half is the application portion.\u00a0 Good luck.\u00a0 Pass out new design sheets.\u00a0 Dismiss the class.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>ASSESSMENT:<\/h4>\n<p>Participation proficiency is 8\/10 and design proficiency is 20\/25.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>SUPPLEMENTS:\u00a0<\/h4>\n<p>(see Lesson 1)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>OBJECTIVE: \u00a0 Students will show an ability to create fantasy makeup by creating a step by step design and applying it to themselves. &nbsp;
