Talking to Yourself and Character Action"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Objective<\/h4>\n<p>Students will demonstrate their understanding of Uta Hagen\u2019s Talking to Yourself and Character Action exercises by teaching the exercise and facilitating a corresponding activity.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Materials Needed<\/h4>\n<p>\u00b7 Candy<br \/> \u00b7 Respect for Acting by Uta Hagen (preferably one per student)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Lesson Directions<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5>Anticipatory Set\/Hook<\/h5>\n<p>Review the exercises up until this point with the students. Ask them to identify the exercises and the correlating activities. Toss a candy to those who raise their hand and provide correct answers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5>Instruction<\/h5>\n<p>Step 1:<br \/> \u00b7 Split the class into two equal groups<br \/> \u00b7 Assign the first group the exercise \u201cTalking to Yourself\u201d (pg 119-123) and the second group \u201cCharacter Action\u201d (pg 139-142)<br \/> \u00b7 Pass out the books (Respect for Acting) to each student<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Step 2:<br \/> \u00b7 Inform groups that they will now be the teacher<br \/> \u00b7 As a group, they will read about the exercise they were assigned<br \/> \u00b7 Then they will have to conduct the exercise prescribed by Hagen or create another activity that will help teach the principles of the exercise<br \/> \u00b7 Give them about 15 minutes to read and prepare<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Step 3:<br \/> \u00b7 At the conclusion of the 15 minutes, each group will take 3-5 minutes to explain what the exercise is to the rest of the class (i.e. the other group)<br \/> \u00b7 Following their explanation, they will take 12-15 minutes to conduct the determined exercise\/activity<br \/> \u00b7 At the conclusion of their presentation, as the presenting group and the receiving group what they learned, what they liked, what they didn\u2019t like, etc.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Step 4:<br \/> \u00b7 Have the groups switch and allow the second group to follow the same pattern of presentation<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Closure:<\/h4>\n<p>\u00b7 Discuss this process of learning and teaching the different exercises (Possible questions: what did this exercise do for you? How did it help you?
