Building Stock Platforms"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Objective<\/h4>\n<p> The students will demonstrate their knowledge on how to build a legged-up stock platform by building one in a group.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Materials Needed<\/h4>\n<p> 6 pieces of \u00be\u201d plywood @ 4&#215;8\u2019<br \/> Pieces of 2&#215;4\u2019<br \/> Miter Saw<br \/> Nail Gun with Nails<br \/> Screw Guns<br \/> Screws<br \/> Drill<br \/> Bolts<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Lesson Directions<\/h4>\n<p> Anticipatory Set\/Hook<br \/> Previous Lesson<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Instruction<\/h4>\n<p> Step 1: Divide the students into four groups<br \/> -Have the students create a cut list for a 4&#215;8\u2019 platform<br \/> 4&#215;8\u2019 Platform<br \/> 2-Rails @ 4\u2019-0\u201d<br \/> 2-Stiles @ 8\u2019x9\u201d<br \/> 3-Toggles @ 3\u2019x9\u201d<br \/> 1- \u00be\u201d plywood lid @ 4&#215;8\u2019<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Step 2: Have the students cut the rails and stiles<br \/> -lay them on the floor of the shop and nail them together<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Step 3: Have the students cut out the toggles<br \/> -place them in the frame and nail them in<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Step 4: Lay the lid on top of the frame<br \/> -starting with a short side (rail) screw in the lid every one foot<br \/> -continue working around the frame<br \/> -screw in the lid to the toggles<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Step 5: Ask the students if they want to leg up the platform 12\u201d how long should the long<br \/> piece of the step leg be? (11\u201d-take away \u00be\u201d for the lid thickness and \u00bc\u201d for the gap between the lid and the step leg)<br \/> -have them cut out 6 pieces of 2&#215;4\u201d at 11\u201d (one step leg in each corner and one in the middle of each long side)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Step 6: Ask the students how long the shorter piece of the step leg should be?
